Thanks to our Sponsors & Volunteers

We would like to first thanks the sponsors – be sure to support their product.

Firestone Brewery, located in Paso Robles, donated the cups and two kegs of their very fine microbrews – a pale ale and double barrel ale. More than 500 glasses of beer were poured. Firestone is also know for their award wining wines in the Santa Ynez area. For all who enjoyed the beer, you can purchase their product at Albertson’s and fine restaurants all over San Diego.

Sportsmen’s Seafood, 1617 Quivira Rd, Mission Bay located next to the Hyatt Islandia, donated ice, fresh tartar sauce and the fabulous fish that Gene Fulkerson deep fried to perfection. The fish was cod and they have the freshest fish in town. If you have any upcoming events or a need for fresh fish, ask for Mario or Joe and they’ll take good care of you. FYI, the rumor that Gene caught the fish that morning is a bit of a stretch.

There are many people who helped make the picnic the successful event that it was. We hope to make this an annual event and will need more people next year. Our volunteers worked very hard and so when you see them, be sure to thank them.

Gene Fulkerson, Pacific Rim, served as Picnic Chairman, fried all the fish, ran the games and loaned his BBQ, deep fryer, two propane tanks, jockey box, and three ice chests. Gene donated the team uniforms that the teams got to keep, all the prizes and way too many things to remember.

Sal Adona, North Island, grilled all the hamburgers, transported Gene’s BBQ & fryer, and loaned his a BBQ and ice chest.

Catherine Ohl, Pacific Rim, shopped, prepped and served food, cleaned up and collected the cans and bottles for recycle. She also donated two of her best bras for the cross-dress contest and brought the croquet set. She is currently resolving the picnic accounting and writing up all the notes on planning (so someone else will know how to run the event).

Mike German, North Island, and Bob March, North Island, secured our picnic area in the wee hours of the morning and with the help of Dennis Wahl and Mary Limon, (both North Island) cleaned the tables and grounds for our arrival.

John Tyson, San Diego, brought the timers, cones, and straps for the games and provided the PA system that was really helpful in gathering the troops (although, it wasn’t needed to announce the food).

Mike Sanford, North Island, brought an ice chest, bull horn and ski pole.

Janet Hanson, Torrey Pines, brought extra tables and the bocce balls.

Dick Wood, North Island, brought everything we needed for volleyball and bocce balls.

Jim Ortiz, Don Diego, ran the piñata contest for the under 5 set. These kids were so cute running around with their cups full of candy.

Patricia Ortiz (no relation to Jim), Pacific Rim, ran the sign-in table through lunch and helped Gene with the games. When pressed, she joined one of the Council teams for the games.

Chuck DeFreitas, North Island, helped Sal Adona cook the burgers.

Catie Somer, Torrey Pines, brought the buckets for the beer overflow (important stuff).

Darlene Stein, North Island, served up the last 100 or so hamburgers.

Julieanna, Don Diego, at age 11 was a tremendous help, with sign-in, clean-up and giving out team uniforms.

Special thanks to the Picnic Committee, for going to their clubs and getting their members out to the picnic– Mike & Eileen Sanford, Sal Adona & Nora Lancaster (North Island), Janet Hanson & Rusty Etzel (Torrey Pines), John Tyson (San Diego), Cheryl Penton (Action), Roy Heilpern (Don Diego), Christine Cuprys (Torrey Mesa), Steve Simpson (Solar), and Catherine Ohl (Pacific Rim).
