Auden Schendler serves as the Executive Director of substantiability, Aspen Ski Corporation. Auden oversees Aspen Skiing Company’s environmental efforts, corporate contributions, and civic engagement. He also serves as Director of Aspen substantiability Associates, a green business consulting practice.

Previously a research associate in corporate substantiability and newsletter editor at Rocky Mountain Institute, Auden has worked as a residential energy auditor, high-school math and English teacher, Outward Bound Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, planning and zoning commissioner, and energy efficiency researcher.

A LEED certified professional, Auden served from 2004 to 2006 on Colorado Governor Owen’s pollution prevention advisory board; he currently serves on the steering committee of the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization.

Auden’s work at Aspen Skiing Company has been covered widely, in magazines including Outside, Fast Company, Business Week and Travel and Leisure, on Nightline and The Jim Lehrer News Hour. Named a “Climate Crusader” in TIME magazine’s 2006 special issue on climate change, Auden is also a recipient of the 2007 EPA Climate Protection Award. Auden speaks internationally on sustainable business issues, and has lectured at Yale, Harvard, Bowdoin and Colorado College.

His writing on sustainable business, life in the West, and mountaineering have been published in journals ranging from Harvard Business Review to the L.A. Times, Salon.com, the Denver Post, Corporate Environmental Strategy, High Country News, Rock and Ice, the Yale/MITJournal of Industrial Ecology, the Philadelphia Enquirer, Paddler, and two anthologies. His book Getting Green Done: Hard Truths and Real Solutions from the Front Lines of the substantiability Revolution, will be published in February of 2009 by Public Affairs. He received a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College.

Getting Green Done is Auden ‘s book discussing what it means to implement climate solutions in the real world. Auden has lead the charge of the highly respected Aspen Ski Corp in seeking solutions to the affects of global warming and has placed ASC in the vanguard of ski resorts with very active programs in conservation.
